Situated in the province of Banten, just an hour's drive from Jakarta, The Karian dam testifies the Indonesia's commitment to water resource management.   The dam area covers 2,226.44 Ha which can accommodate up to 314,7 million cubic meters of raw water. It also can irrigate 22,000 hectares of rice fields providing 13.9 cubic meters per second of raw water for irrigation, public water necessities and industrial needs. Karian Dam is a crucial infrastructure for the area. "The Karian Dam is one of Indonesia's biggest dams," said Joko Widodo, the Indonesian President at the inauguration ceremony in Banten. This project, which required a public investment of IDR 2.27 trillion (US$ 146 million), is not just about size, it is a key to a sustainable future for the region.

An efficient data collection One of the key challenges faced during the implementation of the Karian Dam project was the need for significant data collection. PcVue was chosen by the engineering company for its user-friendliness and flexibility.

Mr. Satrio, director at PT Sartika Mitrasejati, noted that "PcVue was easier to use than other products" highlighting the software's intuitive interface and cutting-edge features. PcVue software allows the team to supervise the dam's water flow and integrate multiple subsystems in a single platform.

The real challenge was to be able to collect data despite the great distance covered along the river. PcVue's adaptability and scalability were pivotal in overcoming this challenge

A helpful technical support Mr. Satrio mentioned, "PcVue’ support team was very accommodating and ensured that all our requests were met." highlighting the team's dedication to providing quick and efficient technical support.

Many interfaces with other products The successful implementation of the dam project relied on tailored features to meet the unique demands of its infrastructure. PcVue was interfaced with various other systems thus improving the operational efficiency of the dam as it provides a consolidated information platform for the operator: - Remote monitoring through WebVue platform; - Complete reporting using Dream Report; - Integration of 8 CCTV cameras using Onvif protocol to confirm critical water level alarms visually;

A project with not only economic but also social impact As the largest dam in Indonesia, the Karian Dam project is not just about breaking records, it's about making a real difference in people's lives. Although the project is still expanding with the addition of several telemetric stations, the dam is already changing lives. Not only boosting the region’s agriculture efficiency but also serving as a vital tool to prevent floods.

This project also helps on a global scale. Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, faces a significant challenge as it continues to sink at an alarming rate. This subsidence, primarily caused by excessive groundwater extraction, threatens the city's infrastructure and more importantly, the well-being of its inhabitants. The Karian Dam presents a crucial solution to this problem by providing a new and reliable source of water thus reducing the city's dependency on groundwater, the dam helps mitigate the subsidence issue. The Karian dam is therefore not only a vital infrastructure project for water management and agricultural efficiency, but also a key player in meeting Indonesia's environmental and societal challenges. PcVue is proud to play a pivotal role in a project helping communities on such a large scale.
