CAMBRIDGE, Ontario--()--Allcard Limited (Allcard), Canada’s leading producer of gift, loyalty, insurance and identification cards, today announced their acquisition of Guelph, Ontario-based commercial printing house Ampersand Printing (Ampersand).

This acquisition sees Ampersand join a larger group of companies under Allcard’s umbrella. Through Ampersand, says Allcard President Mark Brown, they have gained a print and packaging partner that is highly regarded, and greatly expands their capabilities.

“We have been looking for several years for this kind of opportunity, so it’s a perfect solution and allows for better controls and service for our clients,” says Brown. “Now, everything is a one-stop shop, from card production, through to packaging and fulfillment.”

“For our customers, there’s the convenience factor of being able to source everything from one vendor, so colour consistency, timelines and quality are consistent across all product lines,” says Ampersand President Damian McDonald. “We think that’s a very valuable proposition and something unique to the Canadian marketplace.”

In addition to their plastic card production capabilities, Allcard also provides custom-printed packaging for customers in the food and beverage and health and beauty industries.

Ampersand, meanwhile, brings nearly 50 years of experience in large format, offset and digital printing – as well as direct mail fulfillment and packaging.

“Allcard was actually a long-time customer of Ampersand’s and used them for our printed gift card carriers and letters,” explains Brown. “Through this acquisition, we can bring Ampersand’s expertise fully in-house and create a best-on-best situation that fills gaps and plays to each company’s strengths.”

Brown points to the recent investments Ampersand has made in luxury rigid packaging for high-end and specialty products. This, he says, pairs nicely with Allcard’s expansion into the folding carton space. Now, the combined companies can offer their customers a full range of print and product packaging solutions.

Strengths and capabilities aside, McDonald explains that a key factor in this Allcard-Ampersand union is the companies’ shared philosophy and approach.

“While we are both gaining in size and reach, Allcard and Ampersand are still – at the end of the day – family owned and operated businesses,” he says. “That’s something Mark and I are extremely proud of, and I think it informs how we treat our employees, value and support our customers and remain committed as ever to creating the highest-quality work.”
